The positions are Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

The posts have been described by some as “meant to suit the interests” of the four National Super Alliance principals – Raila Odinga, Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.

"From next week, we will be communicating many of our plans to you. But as it appears now, we will go to the polls on existing positions. It is impossible now to effect a referendum to create other positions," Mudavadi said on Thursday.

He was addressing women aspirants for various political seats from across the country at ANC headquarters in Nairobi.

Some have argued that creating the Prime Minister post will skyrocket the public wage bill, which is already bloated.

Currently, the public wage bill is Sh568 billion.

“NASA leaders want to create those positions (PM) to satisfy themselves, to ensure everyone in the coalition gets a position in government in case they will the election,” said Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Kochei Albert on Citizen TV’s power breakfast show, Friday.

ODM leader Raila, a NASA principal, became the Prime Minister while Mwai Kibaki was President in the Grand Coalition government after a power-sharing deal was struck, following the disputed 2007 general election.

Mudavadi served as Deputy Prime Minister in the government.
