Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi has dismissed Deputy President William Ruto's remarks that the Opposition alliance NASA presidential ticket unveiled last week Thursday at Uhuru Park is a rematch of the 2013 general elections.

The Deputy President made the remarks on Thursday during a meet-the-people tour in parts of Kiambu and Nairobi counties on Thursday.

In an opinion editorial published by the legislator with the Daily Nation on Friday, Wanyonyi noted that the NASA team stands a pole position of winning the Presidency during the August polls, owing to the runway corruption and rise of the cost of living that has riddled the Jubilee administration.

"So the naming of the same team to fly the opposition flag means August 8 is a rematch of 2013. But that is as far as the similarities go. Today’s changed circumstances mean the race will be a lot more competitive. There are a number of reasons for this. First is that being incumbents, Uhuru and Ruto must take responsibility for what is right and what is wrong in Kenya today," he quipped.

"Two issues will keep coming up; corruption and the high cost of living," he added.

He further noted that the inclusion of outspoken Bomet governor Isaac Rutto and Amani National Congress Leader Musalia Mudavadi to the NASA fold will play a pivotal role in ensuring a win for the Opposition outfit.

"Then there is Governor Ruto’s own charisma which will come in handy in the campaigns, not only in the region, but also across the country where his dramatic, humorous speaking prowess will come in handy," the lawmaker observed.

NASA settled on ODM Leader Raila Odinga as its presidential flag bearer and Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate.
