Members of parliament allied to the NASA coalition need to resign immediately and refund the salaries they have received in the past four months. Following a decision by the NASA principals to frustrate the administration of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the MPs plan to skip parliamentary proceedings when the head of state’s nominees to various posts are tabled in the national assembly for vetting. Since the main job of an MP is conducting oversight on the executive branch of government, the opposition-leaning lawmakers will be failing their constituents by refusing to do the same work they were put in office to perform. For the past four months, the NASA MPs, who have been drawing salaries and hefty allowances every month, are yet to do any work. They have refused to form parliamentary committees, and have only been reporting to work and leaving immediately — in a move beat the system to get allowances. If the MPs were doing any other job that ordinary Kenyans do, they would have been fired a long time ago. If they are no longer interested in what they were elected to do, why not resign and give a chance to those willing to serve?
