The nomination of Mbadi and Wetangula have in the past been quashed by the House Speakers, Justin Muturi and Ken Lusaka, with the former saying the House rules were not followed and the latter saying that Wetangula’s Ford Kenya Party is not a parliamentary party given he is the only elected member on that ticket. The National Super Alliance (NASA) has retained Moses Wetang'ula and John Mbadi as the minority leaders in the Senate and National Assembly.
NASA confirmed they had written to speakers of both Houses to reaffirm their nomination of the two.
According to Capital, NASA Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya insisted that the coalition was in agreement with the choices and added that they were in the final stages of finalising their list of nominees to sit on various House Committees.
“Mbadi and Wetang'ula still remain the coalition’s choice of preferred leaders in both Houses of Parliament. The coalition is however, in consultation with party members to agree on names of other nominees who will occupy the various House Committees,” said Magaya.
Recently, both House Speakers Justin Muturi and Ken Lusaka quashed the nomination of the two on grounds that rules were not followed.
Lusaka on his part said that Wetang'ula’s Ford Kenya Party was not a parliamentary party since he was the sole elected member on that ticket.
