When the National Super Alliance (NASA) was formed, all the leaders of the political parties in the coalition became principals of the political outfit.
ODM's Raila Odinga, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC's Musalia Mudavadi and Ford-Kenya's Moses Wetang'ula all became leaders of the coalition with Raila and Kalonzo being chosen to compete against Jubilee party's Uhuru Kenyatta nad William Ruto in the 2017 elections.
However, the leaders began facing challenges in deciding on who gets the opportunity in flying the coalitions flag in the August elections. The coalition thus resolved to workshops, summits and meetings to discuss the issue.
In the recent past, the coalition has been faced with issues after some of the principals failed to avail themselves for the controversial swearing-in of Raila on January 30. What has ensued is blames from the principals and excuses concerning the occurrences.
However, the idea of having all the politicians leading the coalition is the main problem for the political outfit. All the leaders believe they can decide on the course of the coalition.
To curb the 'death' of the coalition, the 'principal tag should be done away with and a coalition leader chosen to represent the agenda of the opposition outfit.
This way, the idea of any of the leaders coming up with his own idea and trying to impose it on others will be curbed and the coalition will get the opportunity to end the ongoing push and shove between the parties in the coalition.
As the Deputy Ruto cautioned the coalition during the funeral of the late Yvonne Wamalwa, their back and forth will cost them any political competition in the country as they will always be preoccupied with wrangles. For future success, the coalition should abolish the leadership of numerous persons and if necessary should go the Jubilee party way and unite all the parties within the coalition for one political outfit.
