It has now emerged that a section of NASA supporters from the luhya community-based in Mombasa refused to take in Monday anti-IEBC protests called by Raila Odinga.
The demos were called by Odinga to push for the removal of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba for allegedly being behind the mismanagement of the August 8 polls that were nullified by the Supreme Court.
Speaking to the press, the supporters said that they had an issue with Raila’s hard stance on Chiloba who hails from the luhya community.
The community’s Spokesman Joseph Makokha stated they wouldn't be part of the demos meant to force Chiloba out of office.
He said that further protests would only plunge the country further into political uncertainties.
His sentiments were echoed by Stephen Mandela, a university students’ leader.
Mandela said that the move by NASA to push out Chiloba will deny Odinga the luhya vote.
“Chiloba is a member of our community and it would be foolhardy for us to blindly support demonstrations meant to force one of us out of office illegally,” Makhoha stated.
Last week, Siaya Senator James Orengo announced that NASA would hold demonstrations against IEBC on a daily basis.
The development emerged after Raila announced that he will not take part in the repeat presidential polls that are scheduled for October 26.
