[Photo/The Star]The National Super Alliance (NASA) has finally filled an appeal to stop the Sh2.5b ballot printing tender to Dubai-based Al Ghurair firm after the ir presidential candidate Raila Odinga said they will take that direction few days ago.
According the the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the move by NASA will really slow down the elections that are now less than 45 days, hence IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati still maintain Al Ghurair is the firm to deliver the ballot papers in time.
"It is the only company that we came up which can do that process we didn't want to have a split tender where you have three or four companies printing ballot papers for election in this country," said Chebukati.
In the suit that is now in the corridors justice, NASA claims that Al Ghurair is linked to the Kenyatta family and could print excess ballot paper to favor the Jubilee government in the August 8, polls.
However, constitutional lawyer George Kithi urgues that moving to court was the best option for both NASA and the IEBC since if Al Ghurair's tender is cancelled the Dubai-based company cannot sue anybody for damages.
"The company may have easily procured and secured the material for printing and therefore incurred certain costs so the only way, that it can be done is when the tender is cancelled through a court process," said Kithi.
All eyes are now on the Judiciary as the opposition seeks to cancel the Dubai-based printing ballot printing tender.
