Nelson Marwa, the Coast Regional Coordinator recently received a promotion from the President in what has been seen as a reward for his excellence in executing his duties.Marwa, the outspoken and often controversial figure served as the Mombasa County Commissioner for six years since 2010 before he was promoted to be the Coast regional coordinator in early 2016, taking over from Samuel Kilele who was transfered to the Western region. He was on Friday named the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution and Asal areas and will work under Eugene Wamalwa who was moved from the Water and Irrigation docket.Marwa while serving as the Mombasa County Commissioner clashed on several occasions with the region's top politicians among them Governor Hassan Joho. Even after being named the Coast regional coordinator, Marwa and Joho were at loggerheads on several occasions making him hit the headlines regularly. With more of the clashes, Marwa became a prominent figure and arguably loved and hated with the same measure among not only the locals in the region but also across the country. However under the new role, Marwa might not enjoy the publicity he has been receiving as most of the work in the ministry will be handled by 'the big boss', the Cabinet Secretary.Under his new role, Marwa will not often be seen in his kepi cap, the one he was used to, as Commissioner as well as the Coordinator. He is a different man when in a police cap and when he his bare head.
