If there is one man in Mombasa County who as consistently criticized Governor Hassan Joho, it's Nyali MP Hezron Awiti.
Awiti, who was elected during the 2013 general elections on a Wiper ticket has announced plans to contest for the Mombasa governor post.
Of all the MPs in the county- Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Masoud Mwahima (Likoni) and Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita) it's only the first time legislator who has opted to follow his own political path- constantly criticizing Joho's administration.
But why?
Joho is a close ally of ODM party leader Raila Odinga. He is Mr Odinga's deputy in ODM and therefore enjoys the opposition chief's political whispers.
Raila, early 2016, handpicked investigative journalist Mohamed Ali to contest for the Nyali MP seat in 2017.
This development rattled Mr Awiti who felt that despite being a member of Wiper which, is a Cord coalition affiliate party, picking Moha to run for the seat amounted to betrayal on his side.
Joho, on the other hand, has of late been close to the 'Jicho Pevu' guy who, apparently, enjoys massive support in Nyali constituency.
Moha is a threat to Awiti's political future and all indicators point that if the two contested for the Nyali parliamentary seat today, Moha would floor Awiti.
Awiti believes Mohamed Ali has strategically been positioned by Joho to unseat him.
So when you see the man with roots from the lakeside throw his next jab to Joho don't ask why he did so.
