[Photo|NMG]Clergymen in Nyeri county will on Monday morning conduct a 'ritual cleansing' on the governor’s office ahead of the swearing ceremony will of Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga as the new governor in the afternoon.Kahiga, who has been the Deputy Governor since the August 8 General election, will be sworn in following the death of Governor Wahome Gakuru at a grisly road accident at Kabati in Muranga on Tuesday last week.The cleansing ceremony decision, the Star reports, was arrived at by Nyeri leaders arrived following the death of the second governor while in office in less than 10 months time.The inaugural Governor Nderitu Gachagua died of pancreatic cancer at a London hospital in February this year and was succeeded by his deputy Samuel Wamathai. Wamathai was, however, trounced by the late Gakuru during August 8 General Election."Legal advisers have asked me to take the oath of office so that I can be able to execute my duties as governor," he told the Star on Sunday.The swearing-in ceremony was earlier scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed at the last minute till the Governor's burial, but was rescinded before the Monday's decision was arrived at.Kahiga has promised to work together with Nyeri people and leaders to ensure that his vision is realised to ensure every vision of the late governor will be achieved 'as that was his will'.
