A fierce battle is expected as the 2022 general election's presidential contest looms. In the race is Deputy President William Ruto who is likely to face his former ally and leader of opposition Raila Odinga. This is surely going to be a historic contest with both leaders enjoying massive support in their political bedrocks.
The former Prime Minister is joining the race wielding his Luo Nyanza absolute support and his Western, Kisii and Coast heavy support base while the Deputy President, on the other hand, is enjoying a strong backing from his Rift Valley home-ground.
Also in Ruto's basket is the Mt. Kenya vote which he has since been assured of putting the two leaders on a level ground.
With Ruto enjoying President Uhuru Kenyatta's endorsement, Odinga is basking in the support of able and influential leaders including Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi, influential leaders who will surely deliver millions of votes into his vote basket.
The two have also worked together in the past and therefore know each others' political strategies and will obviously be seeking to outdo each other rendering the smartest one the winner, making it an even more interesting contest to watch.
Lastly, they have both made remarkable steps in their political journeys, Odinga rising to the Prime Ministerial post and Ruto to the deputy head of state, with none of them willing to let the other steal his chance to reach the peak of Kenyan politics; the presidency.
An Odinga - Ruto contest is surely going to be one of the fiercest in the nation's history and only the smartest one will be lucky enough to emerge the victor.
