Opposition leader Raila Odinga has explained circumstances that led to his decision to sleep while shoes on at businessman Jimmy Wanjigi’s place.
With police having earmarked the home as a ‘crime scene’, the ODM leader was not allowed to move out of the compound on Tuesday evening with a heavy presence of police visible.
And a jovial Odinga said he kept vigil around the home to ensure that the police respected occupants of the house without doing further damage.
“They were not ready to obey the court order and even disallowed our lawyers from getting in. I made a decision to stay around to ensure they did not misbehave,” he said.
He further added;” I did not sleep per se but was just taking a rest. I have been in such a situation before so i was alert and vigil to ensure they did not harass anyone.”
Under unclear circumstances, police had besieged Wanjigi’s Runda home and Kwacha offices in Westlands, as the government refused to disclose what precipitated the incident.
Although he later on made to the press conference, it is however not clear that Wanjigi was in the house at the time Odinga had visited.
