Raila Odinga says forming an interim government will allow both sides of political divide engage in constructive dialogue to initiate proper reforms.
He further says the proposed reforms in the IEBC and on Kenya's constitution requires more time to materialize.
"I want an interim government so that we can have ample time to initiate proper reforms," he told Reuters in an interview on Wednesday.
"It takes some time because we want to do away with the culture of electoral fraud which is rampant in Africa and other nations."
The veteran opposition leader boycotted presidential repeat poll arguing that electoral body, IEBC did not have the integrity to oversee the poll.
In the US, Odinga is set to hold a series of meetings in Congress to set the 'record straight' on the current political impasse in the country.
The Jubilee leadership has, however, dismissed calls for an interim government claiming that Odinga wants power through unconstitutional means.
