Timothy Bosire, a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga, could be key in governorship ODM nominations in Nyamira given his growing influence.
John Nyagarama, James Gesami and John Kumenda have lined up for the battle of titans in the county that is perceived to be ODM stronghold.
Nyagarama will be riding on his scorecard due to incumbency while Gesami, who doubles as ODM Nyamira branch chairman, would depend on his performance as West Mugirango MP.
But Bosire, a first time MP, who doubles as party’s national treasurer, would be crucial to all candidates given his political acceptance by many ODM supporters in Gusii.
However, the Kitutu Masaba MP, has kept a low profiling in Governorship contest, maintain that he will support the victor in April primaries.
A source who sorts anonymity claimed that Nyagarama recently met the outspoken MP in a Nairobi hotel for a closed door meeting.
“The governor understands his influence and they met out of cameras recently,” said the source adding that the two discussed Nyamira politics expansively.
On the other hand, Gesami has a warm relationship with Bosire and both have been spotted in Kisii Sports Club severally after key political functions, a move that has reportedly worried Nyagarama’s camp.
His political fortunes doubled in Gusii land after his infamous arrest together with 7 other politicians over alleged hate speech.
In January last year, Bosire’s support in Gusii doubled when he defied President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order to stand in honour of soldiers who died in Somalia, a move he defended by accusing Jubilee government of allegedly failing to compensate families of victims.
Kumenda, a medical practitioner, is a new comer in Nyamira politics.
Understandably, Bosire is said to be planning to run for Governorship in 2022 even though he has not publicly announced.
