Acting Interior Coordination Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has defended the decision by government to withdraw security personal attached to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
In quick response to the government latest action, Odinga has hired private security officers to man his Opoda farm after the departure of four officers initially tasked to guard his home.
And at Kajiado, Matiang’i accused the opposition leader of misusing security officers by subjecting them to mass protests contrary to the law.
“Why should we give 20 police officers to loiter from one press conference to another, one hotel to another yet they are needed elsewhere?” he asked.
He further said:” Why should you carry the whole platoon of police officers to go and commit a crime?” he asked, in reference to mass protests that opposition had called over IEBC.
A similar fate was suffered by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka with the government claiming that the officers had been redeployed in the Northern part of the country.
On Tuesday, opposition MPs had given government a 24 – hour’s ultimatum to have the security reinstated, a move that was dismissed buy Matiang’i as wishful thinking.
