[Photo|Busia County Government]Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has unveiled austerity measures in his administration to clear all pending bills and to scale up development expenditure.Addressing the press in Nambale after chairing his cabinet meeting, he said there will be no new project to be executed by his government in the financial year 2017/2018 in order to clear all pending bills some dating back to 2014."It is unfortunate that my government inherited millions of shillings in debts from the local authorities. We also have some pending bills. That is why we have scaled up development expenditure. We shall raise it to 50 per cent in the next financial year," he said on Thursday. He said recurrent expenditure will be scaled down by putting a limit on foreign and local travels and to reduce expenditure on training of staff, adding that only new staff will access the fund or allowed to travel. The Governor said the Fuel Levy Fund has been scaled up by the Kenya Roads Board from Sh108 million to 231.7 million. "This has increased the number of roads to be rehabilitated across the county from 29 to 54. My government will also undertake the rehabilitation of Nambale-Butula Road. The road belongs to the National government but since they have delayed to heed to calls of the road users we shall assemble our machines to repair the road," he said.
