[Photo/Daily Nation]The chances of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya now hangs on a balance as the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee is expected to meet on Wednesday to take action on the county boss for ignoring summons.“CPAIC has convened a very important meeting with key stakeholders to discuss consequences of failure to appear before the committee by Oparanya,” reads the invite circulated among the committee.Among all the 47 governors it is only Oparanya who has failed to appear before the Senate committee to explain how his county had spent money allocated to it.to appear Early last year the senators threatened to bar Oparanya from defending his seat because of failure to appear before the committee to answer audit querries. However, Oparanya has repeatedly dismissed the power of the Senate committee to bar him from defending his seat. “They have usurped powers of the county assemblies and now want to take up the roles of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, police, Helb and the Credit Reference Bureau. We know these are the only agencies with powers to clear candidates in an election,” the governor said last year.
