President Kenyatta and his bitter rival during the 2017 presidential race Raila reaffirmed their commitment to unify the country that was seriously battered by the bitterly contested election and the subsequent Supreme Court battle that saw Uhuru's win annulled.

However, conspicuously missing during the Friday event in Meru was Siaya Senator James Orengo, Raila's political brain and key confidant.

But later, the "Walking Constitution" confirmed his whereabouts and why he missed Madaraka Day celebrations.

According to the Senate Minority leader, he was attending the funeral mass service in honour of Siaya County Assembly Chief Whip Joanes Andiego who passed on early this week.

" Attended a funeral mass service in honor of the late Hon. Joanes Andiego who until his death was the ODM Chief Whip in Siaya County Assembly at Odaho Primary School in Central Sakwa Ward," he posted on his Twitter handle.
