Parliament's Continental House that hosts a number of MPs offices is set to remain closed after a fire was discovered from the building's Sauna, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has announced.
In a press statement by the Speaker on Wednesday, Muturi explained that the building's closure is meant to allow engineers to rectify an electric fault believed to have caused the fire.
"At around 6.30pm, Parliamentary staff on routine duty at Continental House detected some smoke smell of burning wood. Upon keen observation, the staff realised that a small part of the wooden Sauna roof which is located on the basement floor had caught fire," he said.
"Parliament would like to clarify that the fire was a result of failed electronic fire temperature controller in the Sauna room. Consequently the Sauna has been closed temporally," he added.
