[Photo: The Star]Political commentator Joseph Simekha has said that the state is ultimately responsible for all Kenyans' security and as such must be willing to take responsibility when any Kenyan loses life as a result of insecurity.Simekha said that happened in Babadogo on early Sunday morning where about 8 people were hacked to death by unknown assailants is a failure by the government under whose security agencies are under its watch."The ultimate blame must be with the people we pay to protect us and those who command them from the highest office in the country. We should not have security bosses who are competing with politicians in making statements. It is unacceptable," said Simekha during an interview at Citizen TV on Sunday.Speaking at the same time Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) chairperson Kagwiria Mbogori blamed the ongoing killings on the political class."The political class has failed us completely. Were it not for them, no innocent Kenyan would have lost their lives because of politics. For instance, the situation on Friday when Raila was coming back from the US could have been handled better and no life ought to have been lost," Mbogori said. She wondered whether it was not possible to have peaceful, political protests that do not lead to loss of life and property."There is need to listen to each other because we cannot continue to lose lives just like that. Police, on the other hand, must also avoid using excessive force," she added.
