An MP has revealed one of the major reasons police officers kill their spouses.
Mohammed Ali (Nyali) while speaking in Parliament on Wednesday said there is a lot of anger among officers especially those working far away from their spouses.
"Mr Speaker Sir I stand here to state that police officers are poorly paid, that is why you don't see this country moving forward. Because we don't invest in national security," he said.
"I would like to give important examples of events that happen at police stations. How police officers live is something disheartening."
"Some of these officers when they are sent to build the nation far away from their home, some other men come and help build their homes and raise their families. And what happens? They return with all the anger and end up killing or doing somethings you would never imagine an officer would do."
He said the police are also human being who deserve decent living.
"I suggest that police be given a bonus of salary, insurance, rooms and special weapons to deal with any criminal threat. Sorry, we will get there, God willing," the first time MP said.
Cases of police officers, especially made officers killing their spouses are on the rise in the country.
High cost of living is among the reason some of them commit the crime.
