The police’s funding in the country will be greatly affected after a United Nations agency indicated that it will stop funding the police force.
This, according to the agency is due to the brutality exhibited by the police during the 2017 election.
The funds, totalling to Sh800 million, which are normally given towards operations and equipment will be withheld, and the same was communicated to the police officials last week.
However, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, who spoke to the Star said he is not aware of such withdrawal.
“I am not aware of it and I can't comment on something I am not aware of. Find out from those that are doing it,” Boinnet told the Star.
The police were on the spot for much of the aftermath of the 2017 elections, with reports released showing that they shot, killed and injured civilians.
Last week a report was released which indicated that the police were responsible for multiple sexual offences including rape on civilians.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga accused the police force of killing NASA supporters, during and after confrontations with the men in uniform in various areas.
The police have however defended themselves against these claims, saying only individuals masquerading as officers were responsible for such actions.
