President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday failed to fundraise for PCEA Kimunyu church during the church's ground breaking ceremony after an electoral law barring politicians from fundraising eight months to elections took effect Sunday.
Speaking during the ceremony in Gatundu, the head of state however pledged to provide significant support in "an appropriate time." “For now, the law bars me from making a contribution towards this noble project but I promise that when the right time comes, we shall stand together and complete the building,” he said.
The electoral law that was passed by Parliament bars aspirants seeking political office from participating in any fundraising exercise eight months to the polls.
The law provides that those who contravene this provision risk being disqualified from seeking any political office within that term.
