Political leaders from Samburu County have condemned a proposal by church leaders that the constitution is amended to create an office of the prime minister.
Led by Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshoomo, the leaders asked the church to pray for the country saying amendment of the constitution is not a suitable thing to do with the current political situation, adding that the country should settle before new offices can be created.
“We are all Christians but we say the constitution is not just a valueless piece of paper, it is laws that guide on how all Kenyans should conduct themselves,” Leshoomo said.
Samburu North MP Alois Lentoimaga on his side said it is wrong to amend the constitution in order to accommodate people who did not take part in an election.
“Raila was given a second chance by the supreme court to prove that he won on August 8 general election as he had claimed earlier but he was afraid of the repeat elections,” said Mr. Lentoimaga.
Lentoimaga questioned why National Super Alliance(NASA) leader Raila Odinga claims the October 26 election was rigged yet he withdrew from the race.
The leaders were speaking at Maralal town where they called upon churches and all Christians to pray for peace in the country and keep off from making a proposal they termed unhelpfully.
On Tuesday last week, the National Council of Churches of Kenya called for the creation of positions of Prime Minister and two Deputy Prime Ministers, a move the council says, will unite the country and end the current political impasse.
