Cord leader Raila Odinga and Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba were conspicuously missing at the burial ceremony of Paul Otuoma’s son in Funyula on Saturday.
Malcom Otuoma died at the Nairobi Hospital on November 11, 2016 after developing breathing complications.
He was a first year student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat).
Ababu’s home is just a few kilometers from Otuoma’s.
The rift between Otuoma and Ababu widened when they both resigned from ODM posts (vice chairman and secretary general respectively).
Ababu would later ditch ODM for Labour Party of Kenya, but Otuoma made a u-turn and remained in Raila’s camp.
The two were expected to form an alliance to unite the Luhya community after staging a rebellion against ODM, but that did not happen.
Raila was in Narok County on Saturday for thanksgiving prayers following elevation of Archbishop Ole Sapit to the helm of the Anglican Church, hence his absence at Otuoma son’s burial.
It’s still unclear why Namwamba skipped the funeral, which was attended by Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Busia's Sospeter Ojaamong and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
