George Aladwa (Makadara) said on Saturday that Ruto is a "smart schemer" who can floor re-known political giants and seasoned politicians.

Aladwa said the opposition, therefore, needs to prepare well for the battle as political re-alignments begin to take shape.

"Don't underrate Ruto. He has the energy, is eloquent and has good mobilization capacity," the Nairobi ODM Chairman said. He was speaking at a local radio station during a political talk show on Saturday.

He, however, said the opposition is crafting a scheme through which the DP will be given a run for his money.

Ruto has indicated he will vie for the presidency in 2022 as he seeks to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He is, however, facing competition from a section of Jubilee leaders who say he is too ambitious and should wait to ascend to State House. Most of those in Jubilee opposed to his presidency are from Central Kenya where Uhuru comes from.

he is also facing competition from Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is also eyeing the presidency in 2022. Both Ruto and Gideon come from vote-rich Rift Valley.
