Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga has dismissed as absolute 'nonsense' the rising calls for his arrest over remarks he is alleged to have made last week in Kajiado.
Odinga said calls for his arrest were a waste of time and maintained there was nothing he said at Maili 46 in Kajiado West sub county, that would amount to incitement.
But even if it was proved that Raila had incited, can he be arrested? Your guess is as good as mine. He can't.
Raila knows pretty well that nobody in and outside government can gather enough guts to arrest him. Perhaps that is why he has even rubbished any attempts to initiate investigations against him.
“Investigate what? There is nothing I have said that requires investigations," said Raila on Monday during a press conference at his Capitol Hill office.
Raila has also accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery of chest-thumping and “saying things that are not true”.
Therefore, any attempt to arrest him would be interpreted by supporters as a way of cowering and crashing the opposition ahead of August 8 elections which would face a strong resistance.
National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, has also appeared to soften his stand, demanding that Odinga issue a public apology. This can only embolden Raila.
Finally, Odinga has also pointed out that Jubilee leadership isn't 'innocent' either. He has noted that just two days ago President Uhuru Kenyatta, while issuing title deeds to IDPs in Kiambu County, asked residents not to sell their land.
