National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga announced his withdrawal from the rerun after sensing defeat, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

According to The Star, Ruto said that Raila, a former Prime Minister, knew very well that he cannot win the election, adding that he hatched a plot to avoid humiliating defeat after losing three elections. The deputy was speaking during his tour in Kajiado where he asked the local residents to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“He wanted to avoid a humiliating defeat but the court today (Wednesday) has ruled that all candidates, who participated on August 8 (elections), will be on the ballot. So he will not escape another defeat,” said the Deputy President, as quoted by the Local Daily.

In his withdrawal speech, Raila said that it does not make sense to go back to the ballot box when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been adamant to heed to their demands.

The opposition leader also claimed that Jubilee has already started printing fake ballot papers in preparation to rig the election, claims which Jubilee has denied.
