Political analyst Martin Andati has hinted at possible cracks within Opposition coalition NASA ahead of the 2022 general elections.
According to Andati, NASA leader Raila Odinga could be deserted by the outfit's co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka should the former Prime Minister go for the presidency again.
In an opinion editorial published with The Star Newspaper on Wednesday, the analyst observed that it was unlikely the NASA leaders could be willing to back a Raila presidency again after losing out to President Uhuru Kenyatta during the just concluded August polls.
"At one point, NASA leader Raila Odinga came out and said that he will not support Kalonzo Musyoka because he did not get the Presidency this year. Do you think Kalonzo will agree to play second fiddle while Musalia and Wetang’ula sit there waiting? It can’t work," he said.
"If Raila keeps on running, I see those guys possibly abandoning him. The next move that Raila makes, whether he is going to run or not, will have a bearing on how the Opposition sets up. Chances of NASA holding are very slim," he added.
It remains unclear if Raila could give the presidency another stab in 2022, amid reports that the ODM party leader may be plotting to swear-in himself as the People's President.
