The opposition leader enjoys massive nationwide support as compared to Ruto who can only fully boast of parts of the Rift Valley and Eastern provinces and the Mt. Kenya region.

Odinga enjoys a full backing from his Luo Nyanza bedrock and controls biggest sections of the Coast, Western, Kisii and Nyanza giving him an upper hand should they face-off in 2022.

He has also managed to capture a section of the Rift Valley, scooping majority of the votes in Turkana in 2017 poll, with the Maasai land remaining a swing zone.

Raila has a legacy as one of the leaders who fully participated in the push for second liberation and the advent of devolution, raising his importance unlike Ruto whose tenure has, on the other hand, been spotted with allegations of graft and land grabbing.

Known for his loose tongue and scathing attacks on individuals deemed rivals, Ruto will have it hard gaining the much needed opposition vote.

This has further been worsened by his close allies, including Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who until recently led his attacks on Odinga and opposition leaders.

This is an advantage to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader who will have an easy time locking his support base before embarking on a campaign to invade the DP's areas with the help of his many enemies including Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

The veteran leader's ongoing reconciliations with former rivals will further attract more Kenyans, especially those allied to those leaders to his side, translating into more votes should he opt to vie in 2022.
