Former Cabinet Minister Musikari Kombo has asked the Luhya community not to support NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga's bid during the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking earlier in the week, Kombo accused the former Prime Minister of betraying the Western Kenya community during the 1997 general elections, when he vied for the presidency against the late Vice President Kijana Wamalwa shortly after ditching Wamalwa's Ford Kenya.
“Raila fought Wamalwa and moved out of Ford Kenya and formed the National Democratic Party, which merged with Kanu when Wamalwa was seeking the presidency in 1997,” he said.
“What Raila did to our son is still fresh in our minds, and let him know that he will not get Luhya votes, especially from Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties,’’ he added.
Kombo exuded confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta would get substantial support from the community during the August polls, despite the community being largely viewed as a NASA stronghold.
‘’In the last election, we gave Musalia over 300,000 votes in Bungoma and now all of us have decided to vote for Uhuru,’’ he said.
