The contest between President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Amolo Odinga is going to be one of the toughest in the history of this nation. This comes after the Supreme Court nullified Uhuru’s win. Raila is expected to give Uhuru a run for his money in the next 60 days. There are different reasons why Raila might floor Uhuru.
To start with, NASA is more united. Unlike during the August elections, NASA will speak in one voice. The rivalry between affiliated parties is among the reasons why NASA lost when it comes to the number of seats in parliament. ANC, Ford Kenya, Wiper, Chama Cha Mashinani and ODM all fronted candidates in the different constituency, which is likely to have led to confusion and division of votes.
Secondly, voters who have always believed that you cannot defeat an incumbent President are likely to change their minds. These are the kind of votes who avoided voting for the presidency or voted for Uhuru because they never thought Uhuru can lose.
Thirdly, Raila has proven that all he wants is a better Kenya. Many thought that he will incite his supporters to cause chaos after he said that he will not go to court but he later changed his mind all the way.
Fourthly, Raila has a chance to convince independent candidates to back his presidency. The votes from Independent candidates will definitely change the outcome of the presidential race.
Fifth, the IEBC is on spot over election malpractices. The commission will be out to redeem itself. This is likely to see the replacement of the commissioners. This means that chances of rigging are minimal.
