Supreme Court judges. [Photo/ Capital FM]Now that the Supreme Court found no IEBC official guilty of any wrongdoing during the last presidential election, it is time Raila Odinga ends his war on the electoral commission’s officers. Before the detailed judgement was issued on Wednesday, the ODM leader led his National Super Alliance (NASA) politicians in pushing for IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and a number of other high-profile officials to leave office as a condition for taking part in the repeat elections next month. Perhaps Raila was expecting the court to indict the election officials he did not like, but Chief Justice Maraga said there was no evidence that any election official violated the election laws. As the court said, the electoral commission must now fully focus on conducting the October 26 presidential elections in accordance with the set laws. Raila, who fought the independent body ahead of the August 8 polls at every stage — by launching a series of court cases to cripple the operations of IEBC — must now focus on telling Kenyans why they should elect him over the impressive record of President Uhuru Kenyatta. If any of the current IEBC officials leave before next month’s elections, and a new team is installed — as Raila wants — then the elections will be bungled for sure. And another round of filing petitions at the Supreme Court will follow. There is simply no time for new people to be brought in to do the difficult job of overseeing elections.Kenyans are tired of this tense electioneering period. Everyone wants to vote and move on.
