With only three weeks remaining to the repeat presidential election which is scheduled for October 26, NASA candidate Raila Odinga's grip on four key Coast counties is under serious threat as Jubilee is keenly making significant inroads. With a combined total of over 1.4 million votes, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Taita Taveta counties hold the key to Raila's elusive presidential ambition. However, the recent political developments in the four counties should be a source of concern to the former Prime Minister.Over the past few weeks since the nullification of the August 8 presidential election, President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee has intensified vote-hunting mission in the Coast region with their key target being Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale. However, for Raila, his last visit into the region was back in August 22 when he attended Governor Hassan Joho's swearing in ceremony. Since then, the Jubilee brigade has made numerous trips there even as they hope to turn the tables in this month's contest.More worrying for Raila is the fact that his key men in the region; Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and Hassan Joho have not been as aggressive as they were ahead of the August 8 poll.Kingi is on record saying that he doesn't need to campaign for Raila in Kilifi as the region is solidly behind him. However, the truth of the matter is that Jubilee has infiltrated the region and if Raila will not visit the region himself, then Uhuru may double his August 8 tally of over 200,000 votes. To further complicate Raila's arithmetic in the region is the latest defection wave that is sweeping across Kilifi County with majority of poll losers affiliated to NASA switching allegiance to Jubilee. On Sunday, 15 former MCA aspirants denounced NASA and vowed to campaign for Jubilee.
