National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga invaded Uhuru Kenyatta’s home county after five years of absence.
The ODM chief sought to uproot the notion that he is the enemy of the Agikuyu that he inherited from the Kenyatta-Oginga rivalry.
Tuesday 4, was Raila’s first visit to the populous county since 2012. Odinga had to do this as he tries his last shot at the powerful office.
The NASA leader held a rally at Thika Municipal Stadium where he reminded residents about his selfless support of Mwai Kibaki in 2002 under National Rainbow Coalition. He dismissed the enemy tag as pure propaganda.
“A lot of propaganda has been peddled that I am an enemy of the Kikuyu. That’s not true and I am here to dismiss that. In 2002, Mr Kibaki, who was our general, was injured in an accident, and I told him to rest, after which I traversed the whole country campaigning for him until I was called mutongoria njamba (hero). But now my name has changed to kimundu and muguruki (mad man)?” Odinga said as quoted by the Star.
Raila’s convoy stopped at Kikuyu, Kabete, Kiambu, Ruaka and Ruiru. He suggested that President Uhuru Kenyatta is the enemy of his community because he opposed Kibaki’s bid in 2002.
He said that there were instances when Uhuru used unsavoury language against him but promised Justice for the Lari Massacre victims if voted in.
