Over 15 television channels and tens of print media journalists that had pitched camp at ODM Party leader Raila Odinga's Capital Hill office to cover his anticipated meeting with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and CS Eugine Wamalwa were treated to a no show.
After more than two hours of waiting with cameras set for live broadcast on local channels with both local and a couple of international photographers drooling over capturing a meet and greet moment between Mr Odinga and Council of Governors lead Anne Waiguru, the meeting was aborted minutes past noon.
Lawyer come ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna emerged in the company of CoG CEO Jacqueline Mogeni and Raila’s aide Dr. Noah Akala and delivered the unexpected turn of events on what would have been the day's news making occasion.
The meeting had been sloted to kick of at 10:30 am and would see Mr Odinga meet the senior government officials and discuss key agenda for the devolution conference set to be held in Kakamega but Mr Odinga asked that it is pushed to later hours at noon.
Sifuna told members of the press that Devolution CS Eugine Wamalwa had rushed to Nakuru to attend to an urgent matter and due to the rescheduling, CoG CEO Jacqueline Mogeni had been asked to deliver an invitation to Mr Odinga who will be a special guest at the Kakamega devolution conference.
"We want to thank the organizing committee on the devolution conference for the honor of the invitation and I want to assure them of our cooperation as the ODM fraternity,” said Mr. Sifuna.
CS Eugine Wamalwa had rushed to Nakuru where he would meet a Senate committee after Raila requested the meeting to be pushed from 10.30 am to noon as indicated by his aid during the briefing on the cancellation.
Governor Anne Waiguru together with a team of officials from the Council of Governors had kept waiting at Panafric Hotel, but were notified of the cancellation of the meeting on phone.
