Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for emphasising that Kenya had initiated means to withdraw its membership with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Citing Uhuru's 53rd Jamhuri Day sentiments that the Hague-based Court had been serving with impartiality by targeting African leaders, the Ford Kenya lawmaker claimed Uhuru plans to withdraw Kenya from ICC so as to evade the law, in-case Kenya plunges into post election violence during 2017 polls.
His sentiments were echoed by Cord leader Raila Odinga, who said Uhuru should thank ICC for freeing him, after he faced crime against humanity charges.
"Uhuru should be thankful to ICC. It let him free. First, he used to do the case while in Kenya, yet other leaders have been doing their cases while under detention at the Court. ICC has been very friendly to him,'' said Odinga.
He faulted Uhuru over withdawal from ICC, saying Kenyans will not accept withdrawal from the Court.
"If Kenya withdraws from ICC, there will be impunity in the Country. Our leaders will serve with impunity. ICC must be there to countercheck any impunity. Why are they afraid of a harmless Court?'' wondered the former premiere.
He was speaking during a Wiper party National Delegates Conference, at Kasarani, Tuesday.
