NASA leader Raila Odinga's adviser has revealed why his boss left the country on the eve of Supreme Court ruling.

Salim Lone, Raila's adviser, said unrest forced Raila to travel to Zanzibar.

"The unrest pushed Odinga out of the country. He left Kenya and is now in Zanzibar, off the coast of mainland Tanzania," Lone told the New York Times on Monday.

Raila returned to the country on Friday and received a thunderous welcome from his supporters.

The entry, however,  turned violent as police tried to block his supporters from accessing several areas they had been banned from.

Police had tried to block the supporters from accessing the JKIA airport where ardent Raila followers had promised to throng.

The ensuing violent clash spilled all the way to the city centre.

On Sunday,  another clash between his supporters and police broke out at Mathare slum after murder of five people in Riverside.
