In the past few weeks, former Prime Minister and CORD leader Raila Odinga has been seen holding a series of rallies to popularize himself and his ODM party in the grassroots.
Cord co-principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka have not been spotted in the rallies. They have gone underground hiding from the public.
During the release of the eight political prisoners, none of the principal have attended their prayer rallies. It is only Raila who has been spotted attending the prayer rallies. Kalonzo was spotted only during the prayer rally of Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama, and since then he has gone missing from the public.
Cord co-principals have not managed to marshall their supporters in their backyards to participate in the countrywide demonstrations against the electoral commission .
Here the question comes, how does one who has never campaigned or popularized himself expect to be supported by a candidate who has seized any opportunity to popularize his candidacy?.
Rumours have hit the media that any of the Cord candidates can beat Uhuru except Raila . This is because they want someone whom they can easily triumph.
Raila cannot spend time campaigning only to support another. If the other principals cannot popularize themselves, they should not ask Raila to support them.
As by the observation, in every political duel, numbers matter a lot.
This could be the reason why Uhuru dropped Kalonzo for Ruto. Kalonzo does not even command support in his stronghold despite the fact that he served as vice president during the PNU regime.
Wetangula is a political lightweight. Will it be possible to sacrifice Raila’s interest to become president for the two?
Kalonzo and Wetangula should remain in Cord but must dedicate themselves to ensure Cord wins in 2017. If the two are supported, Jubilee will be sure to win in the next election.
Raila’s bid for the presidency in 2017 will be supported once more than 2022 as he retires from active politics the two take the race. For now Raila remains the only strong Cord bullet compared to Wetangula and Kalonzo.
