Nasa leader Raila Odinga addresses his supporters at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, on October 25, 2017, where he made the second 'big announcement' in less than three months. [Photo: nation.co.ke]The National Super Alliance (Nasa), will from Thursday, October 26, transform its name to National Resistant Movement. And with that Nasa leader Raila Odinga had dropped the 'bombshell' that he had kept the country waiting with a baited breath and clenched fists in form of so-called 'big announcement'.But are Raila's so-called 'big announcements' just hot air that in future should be given little, if no attention? The answer is more in the affirmative. To begin with, it is good to remember that Wednesday's 'big announcement' was not the first one Raila was making. Before he opted to challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 victory, Raila had traversed the country telling supporters to expect a 'big announcement', because he was not going to challenge the election at the 'compromised' Supreme Court. Finally, when Raila flanked by fellow principals in Nasa coalition, appeared in a press conference to make the big announcement, supporters were disappointed. He announced what he had kept telling the country he can't do. He said he was headed to the Supreme Court and it was a second chance he was giving CJ David Maraga and team to 'redeem themselves'. That was all. Hot air!Flashforward to October 25 and Raila is again telling supporters not to do what he has been telling them to do since the day he withdrew from October 26 presidential repeat poll.Raila had warned there will be a 'mother of all demonstrations' on election day. On election day eve, he is again telling supporters to do the exact opposite. Not to demonstrate during elections day and stay at home and avoid getting any closer to polling stations. Hot air!Next time supporters might find it hard to be enthusiastic about Raila's 'big announcements' that promise 'fire and fury' but end up delivering on nothing.
