A former multiparty democracy hero and civil rights activist Rev Timothy Njoya has said former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's handshakes with prominent Kenyans won't help the common Kenyan.
Njoya on Monday said the handshakes are only meant to stamp the authority of the ruling elite who he says are out to exploit Kenyans economically by ensuring they control a larger share of the country's wealth.
"Handshakes is ruling class violence avoidance, it does not necessarily bring love, peace, and justice that can only come from the enemies of the ruling class, the poor masses, and youth," said Njoya who was once beaten by the police in Nairobi as he led a pro-multiparty rally in the early 90s.
"The ruling elite demand a Constitution amendment not to liberate but reinforce their exploitation of the poor," he added.
Raila since March has met President Uhuru Kenyatta as well as former presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
The former Langata MP has also met former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
Raila maintains the meetings are meant to send a message to Kenyans that the country needs to remain united even with the political differences that Kenyans live with every day.
Some political analysts on the other hand claim Raila is being prepared to take over the presidency from Uhuru and help block Deputy President William Ruto from taking over the presidency in 2022.
