Opposition Leader, Raila Odinga has refuted media reports that he would be sworn-in in exile and form a government. In a statement sent to newsrooms, the opposition chief remains adamant that the swearing process of him as "the peoples President" will be held on January 30 and sought to clarify media reports as misleading. This comes after several newsrooms quoted the NASA leader, in an interview with Voice of America (VOA), as having vowed to form a rival government from exile. The statement dismissed the report saying the it was quoted out of context.“Our attention has been drawn to the headline story “I may form government from exile” on theDaily Nation newspaper today purportedly quoting Raila Odinga on the planned swearing in ceremony on the 30 of this month,” the statement notes.

“The author of the story took excerpts from Mr. Odinga’s interview with the VOA where he said, “Should the government try to stop the intended swearing-in ceremony (which he again said is unlikely), then the only other option was to hold it outside the country,” the statement adds.

In the interview with VOA, Mr Odinga said;“We can even be a government in exile, one that works from outside. It has happened in other countries. What we are saying is that Kenyans can no longer allow an illegitimate government not elected by the people to rule them. We will work like a government, we will form a Cabinet and we will work as a government.”
