The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Monday expelled 10 rebels who had moved to the Jubilee Party.
They were; Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba, Joash Maangi (Kisii deputy governor, Kisii), MPs Steven Kariuki (Mathare), Isaac Mwaura (nominated).
Others include: Zainab Chidzuga (Kwale woman rep), Samwel Arama (Nakuru West), Masoud Mwahima (Likoni), John Waluke (Sirisia) and Viwandani MCA Samwel Nyangwara.
Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi, party leader Raila Odinga said the move to expel rebels was to ensure ODM concentrates on the coming 2017 polls.
The party will now inform the Registrar of Political Parties, Speaker Justin Muturi and the IEBC of its decision, after which the expelled legislators will have to face by-elections.
Rejoined ODM
Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka and Bomachoge Chache MP Simon Ogari from Kisii county rejoined ODM.
Onyonka said JP, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto, had broken its promises to their constituents, thus changing their mind to rejoin the party that took them to Parliament.
“I take this opportunity to apologise to Raila and all ODM members,” he told a cheering crowd at Bomas of Kenya.
Pardoned
Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani and Igembe Central MP Cyprian Kubai were pardoned by ODM party.
The two leaders campaigned for the Jubilee candidate in the Nyacheki by-elections.
They apologised to the opposition chief and the party, earning the pardon.
