A team unveiled by the National Super Alliance to find a way to have Raila Odinga declared the “people’s president” has no chair.
According to Nation, the committee of seven is grappled with fear and intimidation from the state machinery.
Sources close to the group indicate that the committee had agreed not to elect a chairperson for fear that the State would target him or her.
“There is a legitimate fear within the committee that picking one to chair it will invite ridicule and unnecessary attacks from the State, which would derail our work,” the source is quoted by Nation.
The work of the committee will be to guide, facilitate and co-ordinate the programme of the various people’s assemblies across the country.
Members of the committee are Senator Judy Sijeny, Ms Hamida Kibwana, Dr Mutakha Kangu, Mr Oduor Ong’wen, Mr Koitamet ole Kina, Mr Peter Mathuki and Dr David Ndii.
The committee has also been mandated to set up and oversee a national secretariat that will be the centre for the activities of the assemblies.
However, it is ot clear weather the swearing in will take place after top officials of wiper moved away from the proposal
