Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma has received a major boost after teachers in the county endorsed his re-election bid.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Kisumu branch Executive Secretary Edward Olando Kwach led other union officials to accompany Ranguma's running mate, Ephraim Kananga, to meet the governor at his Prosperity office, where they pledged support.

Kananga is an educationist and trade unionist, currently served as Knut Executive Secretary in Kisumu County, before he resigned, after he was nominated by Ranguma.

“As the teaching fraternity in Kisumu, we don’t take for granted the honour that the governor has bestowed upon us by selecting one of us to be his deputy. The entire labour movement is behind him,” said Olando.

The teachers also highlighted the achievements the county government had made in the education sector, saying that was another reason for supporting Ranguma's re-election.“We have full scholarship and bursary programs that are supporting our bright needy students to pursue education. We have seen more than 100 model ECDE classrooms built and over 700 ECDE teachers recruited. We also have a free ECDE feeding program. It is because of these interventions that we as the teaching fraternity support Ranguma's re-election,” added Olando.Ranguma thanked the teachers and promised to continue working with them, in his second term, if he wins.
