Jubilee Party has been dealt a huge blow in its perceived Rift Valley region stronghold with just under three weeks to the general elections.
This is following the defection of MPs, former MPs and local leaders from the ruling party to the Opposition coalition NASA.
Led by Chesumei Member of Parliament (MP), Elijah Lagat and former Mosop Legislator David Koech, the leaders accused the Jubilee administration of failing to address the plight of farmers since 2013.
Speaking in Eldoret shortly after launching NASA campaigns in the region, the leaders further maintained that they would drum up support for NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga, arguing that the local farmers' interests are best represented in the outfit.
“The Jubilee government has frustrated the farmers in this country. We have launched intensive campaigns for NASA in Rift Valley to vote out a failed government. We have looked at NASA’s manifesto and felt that it suits us best,” he said.
On his part, Former Emgwen MP, Stephen Tarrus accused the Jubilee administration of unfulfilled pledges in the run up to the 2013 general elections.
“We, as people of Rift Valley, are fed up with fake Jubilee promises. Jubilee should not think that we have moved to NASA individually. We have moved with the masses,” he said.
