Deputy President William Ruto has mocked politicians from his Rift Valley turf who ditched Jubilee for the Raila Odinga-led alliance, National Super Alliance (NASA).
Speaking at Kombe, Chesumei on Tuesday when he campaigned for the re-election of Jubilee Party candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nandi County, Ruto said the leaders were duped by the unreasonable policies advocated by the opposition alliance.
"These people in NASA have said they will legalize chang’aa and busaa, and that is what might have excited some to join them," Ruto was quoted by the Star.
A month ago, NASA flag bearer Raila announced that the Opposition will decriminalize illicit brews if it wins the August General Election.
But the DP dismissed the plans saying the move will undermine the war against alcoholism and drug abuse in the country.
"You should pray for these people who intend to legalise chang'aa and busaa to have a change of heart. It will be a step in the wrong direction as we already have a serious problem with alcoholism and drug abuse," he noted.
The JP presidential running mate urged the residents to rally behind the government in next month poll to ensure the ruling coalition gets another term in office.
"Ignore the defectors who are gambling with their future. Support Jubilee so that we can complete the projects we have started," Ruto added.
Chesumei MP Elijah Lagat led more than ten former MPs in joining the opposition. They accused the Jubilee administration of failing to cater for the needs of locals for the four years they have been in office.
“We, as people of Rift Valley, are fed up with fake Jubilee promises. Jubilee should not think that we have moved to NASA individually. We have moved with the masses,” said Former Emgwen MP Stephen Tarrus, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
