Deputy President William Ruto has condemned a bill by Tiaty MP William Kassait Kamket, that seeks to extend the presidents term to 7 years.
Speaking in Bomet on Saturday, the DP said that leaders should focus on serving the people who elected them and not on selfish interests that will only benefit themselves.
He said that changing the Constitution is unacceptable at this time since the government has priorities to attain so that it's people can benefit.
“As leaders, we should be fair to the people of Kenya who voted for us, by serving them. It’s not time for us to go round talking about changing the Constitution to create some positions and attain our selfish interests at the expense of service delivery.
"Kenyans want roads, hospitals, and schools to be built. They want how millions of jobs can be created for them, they want decent houses but not engaging in politics from Sunday to Sunday, January to December or from one year to the other," the DP said.
Kamket had moved to parliament with the bill that will seek to create a new position of a powerful prime minister post whereas the president would remain to assume ceremonial powers.
