Meru Governor Peter Munya has warned that President Uhuru Kenyatta might not be re-elected in 2017 if he keeps on campaigning with his deputy William Ruto.
He claimed that DP Ruto is spoiling Kenyatta’s votes in Mount Kenya region as he keeps following the President during his tours in the region denying him an opportunity to talk to his supporters.
“The deputy president is always following the president in his meetings in the region denying him freedom to talk to the people. He is spoiling the President’s votes and Kikuyu elders have made the complaints," said Munya.
The Council of Governors (CoG) chairperson also faulted a section of politicians from the region whom he said are working for Ruto and have no interest in campaigning for Kenyatta.
“The team led by Murungi is always talking about the deputy president and his 2022 bid. They have nothing to do with the president,” he said.
DP Ruto has declared he will seek to be Kenya's fifth President in 2022 if President Kenyatta will be re-elected in 2017 poll.
The Party of National Unity (PNU) leader emphasised he is supporting Kenyatta’s reelection despite not folding his party to join Jubilee Party.
The Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) had also advised President Kenyatta to drop his deputy from his campaigns ahead of next year's polls.
They said DP Ruto should campaign separately, specifically in Rift Valley where they feel Jubilee is losing immense support ahead 2017 elections.
