William Ruto is a man under siege in the current government. As the country moves towards 2022 elections, Deputy President William Ruto remains in the run-in for the top seat.
However, recent happenings have cast a doubt over President Kenyatta’s support of his second in command.
There has been talk that Ruto will not receive a nod of approval from Kenyatta come 2022, but leaders from the Jubilee Party have been quick to rubbish the claims.
Just before the last elections, leaders led by former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo said they could not promise anything come 2022, and there are long-standing doubts over the central region’s support of the DP in the coming elections.
During the swearing-in ceremony at the Kenyatta International Sports Kasarani, Senator Gideon Moi was given the role of welcoming dignitaries, which raised eyebrows over the new working relationship between president Kenyatta and Moi.
Moi’s relationship with Kenyatta is that of brothers, but the same cannot be said between Moi and Ruto, who do not see eye to eye.
The recent appointment of Cabinet Secretaries by President Kenyatta was another highlight, with many questioning the working relationship of the two.
Ruto came out to dispel rumors that there was a rift between him and the president, saying their relationship was at their best.
Friday’s meeting between Odinga and Uhuru will be a new worry for Ruto, considering Odinga will now be ‘part of’ the government.
It waits to be seen how the two will fare on in the coming days.
